When Promega wanted to perfect state-of-the-art STR analysis for forensic labs with their new Spectrum CE robotic sampling system, StudioRed supported them by taking their new conceptual look forward ensuring it signaled a fresh design while still respecting Promega’s lineage. The new design blends Promega’s new automated technology in a housing that is easy to use, easy to assemble, and easy to service. StudioRed’s engineering team developed a custom, cam-action door hinge for maximum visual and physical access with a neutral lifting weight and stay open features. Custom illuminated functional features like the loading section’s door handle glow to indicate run status. A custom thermal chamber with unique latching system was developed as well. StudioRed produced the first prototype housings and worked to ensure that the design would move smoothly into production. Later, ten complete enclosure sets were cast, painted and graphics applied to allow initial deployment and testing. The result is a streamlined looking product that reflects the tremendous efficiency increases brought to the forensic lab environment with the Spectrum CE robotic sampling system.
